Learning Networks

I have never officially been part of a PLN, but I have de facto been part of one my whole professional life. Kind of like Christina's 4th floor, one of the great things about being able to coach as a career is you meet almost every day of the year studying your craft. We are constantly watching film of your own team and others' teams to get better. We meet daily about how we can be better people, coaches, strategists, technicians, fathers, you name it. We teach, the student-athletes, then we spend the rest of the day working for personal and professional improvement.
I think this PLN discussion is a really great idea to help us expand our digital network. I have always believed that one of the biggest reasons for pursuing higher education is the connections you make with people, and in a completely on-line class, you have to be a little more creative. This assignment made me think about networks that would really apply to me in my current profession. Here are the ones I joined:

This is a website for football coaches (not digital coaches). There are articles, on-line clinics, and discussion boards talking about all aspects of coaching and football: drills, technique, strategy, fund-raising, and recruiting. It seems like a good resource for football coaches.

Living in Los Angeles, this community seemed appropriate for me. It is the Computer-Using Educators of LA. This group organizes in-person events and conferences and connects using social media and newsletters.

eMINTS is a group of educators focused on digital learning and instruction. There seems to be a wide array of methods of coaching and networking with this organization which started at the University of Missouri.

NAFSA and Diversity Abroad are two organizations that focus on diversity and inclusion for global educators. Having taught several classes on diversity and inclusion, these groups mean a lot to me, though I joined their Facebook pages as the membership fees are too rich for my blood at the moment. As I dive deeper into these groups, I may decide to buy in, but I would like to do more research first. That being said, the Facebook pages seem to provide good information and an active network.
